apathy's laughing
at your selfish collection
crushed by an earthquake
gadgets, gizmos, and toys
staring in disbelief
hoping the insurance covers
while your neighbor bleeds
sympathy's laughing
at your selfish reflection
the visage of a mistake
pollution, air and noise
Atlas' shoulders in relief
the weight of the sky smothers
while your hypocrisy breathes
ok you are having a bad day..seriously, I get it mother earth is very angry that we are not taking care of the planet and therefore, we are paying for our bad behaviour...great post
ReplyDeletebtw, I have no idea how I forgot merlot..perhaps it is what I was sipping while writing my theme thursday post? oh oh..
I think you have sympathy all wrong or am I confusing it with empathy?
ReplyDeletesmokin. like the personification of hypocrisy...thought about atlas..nice magpie jeff...
ReplyDeleteSuch poetry - compelling, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBiting!
ReplyDeleteI love the mirror images of apathy and sympathy. Brilliant. I've been thinking some of these same thoughts with the recent earthquake tragedies.
ReplyDeletewell said, thought provoking
ReplyDeleteHmmm, though provoking, but I would never hold that against you. Don't know whether to sympathize with the apathy or to be apathetic about sympathy. Oh dear, more thinking on the way ...
ReplyDeleteVery nice -- echoes of Bob Dylan.
ReplyDeleteWow, very powerful! The loss of things and the loss of lives. There are some who put too much significance on the first one. Things are replaceable. Great job!
ReplyDeleteokay ... wow...wasn't expecting this, and maybe that's because i haven't been here before. this is really layered and buried deep. it sure hits home with everything that has been happening -- it's all about perspective, sympahty and empathy.
ReplyDeletesmiles,
we should all feel sorry for the insurance company. Aw, they will have to pay back some of those millions they've been hoarding.
ReplyDeleteWhat we need is a no profit system--a company that truly wants to help people...wait a sec...oh never mind, isn't that what government is there for?
poo.
Oops, third try. Favorite lines:
ReplyDeletethe weight of the sky smothers
while your hypocrisy breathes
Somehow hypocrisy always manages to breathe.
Weight of the world on his shoulders. And rightly too. Well said, sir!
ReplyDeleteWow. I keep reading it. And HEARING it.
ReplyDeleteAnd to think of all the dumb-ass voices that keep saying nothing louder and louder. Keep talking Jeffscape. It's powerful.
You write poems too? Nice job.
